THE VISION

the ebb and flow of the trail rolls along with the emotions of the day. Despite getting through NJ and adroitly handling some slippery rocks I find my motivation waning. It was raining in the morning but the canopy shielded us from getting too wet and somehow managed to keep my feet dry. I am still hiking with Tiger Bob and Bee Stinger. Along the way I met up with Forever who I had not seen for over a month. The four of us were treated to ice cream by a previous thru hiker at a creamery that was close to the trail. After we got back on the trail I met up with Glamper and Papa El who I last saw 2 months ago. so much fun running into old trail friends. Forever was also struggling with motivation so I was able to switch into motivator.
This is my motivation: I picture my self at Mt Katatin, ME. I envision seeing the sign, tears fill my eyes as I reach for the wooden cross necklaces that were given to my wife and I back in Virginia. As I get closer, my knees get week, and I reach for my sons keystone knit hat that I have carried since Georgia. I fall to one knee balanced by my poles. I pray. I release him. I am done.

  1. You have left me undone! I don’t know how many times our son had the same motivation of Katahdin in front of him! Keep up the posting…we are following you.

But the statement of reaching for the crosses you were given in Virginia was what did me in. I gave you those crosses. I want you to know as I post this, I am sharing this with our church, West End United Methodist in Wytheville, VA.

I want to encourage you to hang in there and keep on going forward. Also you are getting close to where our conference chaplain is so be on the look out for Wildcat as you go. He will be SOBO.

God be with you as you hike, it is evident He is and may He help you with strength, health and determination! – Carol Lindamood

    1. A friend of mine taped a presentation I did back in the Fall and recently edited it so I could post it on Youtube.com. After going to the website, just search for Andy Davidson thru hiking thru life and you should get the 3 parts. The total presentation lasts about an hour. Hopefully it will make you laugh and think. Since I last wrote, I have to say I really miss the trail and miss conversing with y’all even more. I’ve been working on another project which I hope to announce in the near future. Until then I have dreams of jumping in the truck with Lor and Belle (our Springer Spaniel) and back packing out West this summer. (Just don’t tell my employer).

      Take care, “Phantom”

I can’t thank you enough for all the support. Feel free to spread the word and I apologize to some of you who may be getting this notice as a repeat.

I want you to know as I post this to you this morning, that it is Sunday and I am sharing your post with our church, West End United Methodist in Wytheville, VA. I have been following your posts and enjoyed your journey and pics.

Your statement about the crosses left me undone this morning. I gave you the crosses in Virginia! He is always with you and will never leave you! No matter what mountain you climb!

Keep an eye out for Wildcat, a SOBO. He is our conference chaplain this year hiking the trail and I think just now coming out of Maine.

I pray God will give you strength, health and energy as you continue your hike. God bless! Keep on! You can do this!
